Day 2

AIGUES-MORTES - PALAVAS-LES-FLOTS

Optional excursion proposed: Visit the salt marshes and taste local wines at the Salin du Midi salt company in Aigues-Mortes(1).

We'll take you “off the beaten path” for a walk through salt marshes with a nature guide. The Salin d'Aigues-Mortes offers magical scenery among its out-of-this-world pink salt lakes serving as a true sanctuary for hundreds of protected animal species. Your guide will bring you to the unusual, almost secret locations at the heart of the exceptionally rich flora and fauna of Camargue, all while describing the ins and outs of salt harvesting in the largest Mediterranean salt marsh. Over 200 species of plants and birds coexist in the area. The marshes are home to about 10,000 flamingos, making it the largest French reserve for this iconic, majestic bird.

Afterwards, we'll visit a wine cellar where a cellar master will detail every step that goes in making the carefully-crafted local wines. Of course, we’ll have a taste before we return on board.*

We'll spend the afternoon cruising to Palavas-Les-Flots. We'll travel along the small canal, bordered by wild bulls and horses roaming the high grass, and continue to the Canal du Rhone-à-Sète. Endless salt marshes extend on each side of the canal as flamingos flap their wings around the vast lakes in the typical Camargue landscape, itself a true haven for wildlife. We'll reach solid ground in Palavas-Les-Flots.

Tonight, take advantage of some free time to experience Palavas-Les-Flots, a three-century-old seaside resort. Known to French locals as the "Queen of the Mediterranean beaches," the town brims with old gems and newer additions to its cityscape. While ambling down streets filled with the aromas of fresh herbs and local produce from the market stalls, you'll walk past ancient narrow, two-level houses that were built to accommodate fishermen and their families—testimony to the history of what was once a charming fishing village that became a renowned seaside resort, all the while maintaining its friendly, small-scale atmosphere.

OR

Optional excursion proposed: A traditional evening in a manade(1).

Discover a manade and the life of its herders during a visit and take part in the sorting of the bulls. This is a true invitation to discover the daily life of a family-run business honoring age-old human-animal bonding. We'll enjoy cocktails and live music before indulging in traditional delicacies over dinner.

Day 3

PALAVAS-LES-FLOTS - SETE

Optional excursion proposed: Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert(1).

We'll leave by coach with our guide and head to the Pont du Diable bridge, located in the heart of the Gorges de l'Hérault. The source of many legends, the “Devil's Bridge” spans the Hérault River at its narrowest point. We'll continue to Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. This small medieval town is also part of the Way of St. James, and a stroll through its picturesque streets will lead you to Gellone Abbey, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterwards, we'll stop off at a Languedoc wine cellar for a visit followed by a tasting.* After our excursion, we'll return on board the ship.

We'll cruise towards Sète, arriving at the end of the afternoon.

During this time, revel in the changing scenery—from long beaches bordering the Mediterranean Sea to rows of rustic fishermen huts—as we get closer to the sea and our destination: the port of Sète, where our barge will moor next to stunning sailboats and you’ll be only a few steps away from downtown. Today a vast, cosmopolitan town and the largest fishing port on the French Mediterranean coast, Sète has been nurturing its passionate connection with the sea ever since its harbor was built in the 17th century. Over the decades, the city has managed to retain its charm and traditions while new additions have been made to the architecture, with attractive buildings housing shops, restaurants, and bars along the edges of the many crisscrossing canals in the city.

Optional excursion proposed: The Étang de Thau(1).

We'll leave by coach for the Étang de Thau, the largest lagoon in the region and second largest in France. The area is well known for its history of oyster and shellfish farming. We'll visit the Thau Lake Museum, which outlines the lives of fishermen and presents the various tasks involved in shellfish farming. Afterwards, we'll enjoy a guided tasting of some of the shellfish as we take in the beauty from a patio facing the lagoon. After our excursion, we'll return to our barge.

Tonight is our festive gala evening.
