Zimbabwe is the 24th largest country in Africa, covering an area of 390,000 km². With a population of 14.8 million, it is the 14th most populous country on the African continent and the 72nd most populous country in the world. It is bordered by South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia. Zimbabwe is known for its cultural and linguistic diversity, with 16 official languages, including Shona, Ndebele, English and Tonga.

Although facing economic challenges, Zimbabwe boasts a rich natural heritage, including the famous Victoria Falls, which attract many tourists every year.

 


The country's geography

 

Zimbabwe is located in southern Africa, landlocked between South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia. The country consists mainly of vast plateaus, mountains and valleys. Zimbabwe's highest mountain is Mount Nyangani, culminating at 2,592 meters. The Zambezi River marks the country's northern border and is home to the spectacular Victoria Falls, one of Zimbabwe's main tourist attractions.

Climate

Winter extends from May to October. Days are dry and sunny, around 20/25°C (68/77°F), but temperatures drop at night to as low as 5°C (41°F).

 

Summer extends from November to April, when temperatures are hot, up to around 30/35°C (86/95°F), and the air is muggy, while temperatures drop to around 14°C (57°F) at night. Thunderstorms are frequent in the late afternoon.

 

 

Currency

The local currency is the bond bill, indexed to the US dollar. Cash withdrawals are irregular and limited to 100USD per day. Payment by bank card is not widespread.

 


Communications and networks

Telecommunications in Zimbabwe have improved considerably in recent years. The main cell phone operators offer good coverage in urban areas and along major roads. Internet access is also available in most hotels and cybercafés in major cities.
